Magnetization or lack of maintenance can cause a watch to keep inaccurate time. A precise inspection using professional instruments can resolve the issue of a watch running fast or slow. Every watch has a certain degree of error. Rolex uses Super Chronometer certification (C.O.S.C.), which requires a daily error of +2 to -2 seconds. Therefore, if your watch is not keeping accurate time, it is acceptable as long as it is within the brand's acceptable error range.

If your watch is running out of time beyond the acceptable range, there is a high probability that there is a problem with the movement, such as dried-out lubricating oil or a stuck balance spring. Simple timekeeping issues can be resolved by demagnetizing the watch, while more serious cases require disassembling the movement and lubricating it.
